Re: Minnesota Herp Society Sale

my heart is broken in a thousand pieces.....

It is midnight and I just got home from the MN Herp meeting/ annual fundraiser.

It is true no snakes were for sale..... THEY WERE FREE TO MEMBERS !

The most beautiful RTB in the whole world was there and I had first choice to have him / her . It had a face just like Stargazers " veronica " only all grey... Her tail wasn't really really red. She had very little pattern . We made eye contact .... BUT the lady wouldn't let me hold her. and I wasn't set up for a boa to bring home at midnight . Every one said it was the prettiest boa they had ever seen up for adoption.

I have learned a LOT reading at RTB.net over my 1 1/2 years. I think I knew more about snake husbandry than many of the members there tonight . ( not all snake people of course)

I did pick up a lot of equipment including a nice enclosure for my new turtle. I think I will make a permanent inside elevated turtle pond for the new guy. I will post a photo when done. My new turtle is getting to know me and I love him.

I got heaters, lights, more aquariums, books, and stuff in general. I almost bought a $2200. brand new Repti- Rac breeding thing that went at silent auction for $140. No use for it, but it was a good buy....

well, I met the couple that took my snake, and I think they will give her a nice home. There is always next time . ( I did not take the burmese python, ball pythons, corns, kings, turtles, iguana, beardies, nor the REALLY big RTB.)

It was fun, but my shoulder had its 3rd injection of cortisone this AM and it is KILLING ME. I am writing a little bit while I wait for my pain meds to kick in.

Sorry about your loss Deb, but it sounds like you picked up some neat stuff anyway.

were you in prison ????? lol

I also have been in sandstone a lot. right now I am selling mr. nails house there.

PS: I do not plan on ever owning another snake. It was just so tempting, but it is a big risk any way not knowing the animals history at these things.

now I am going out to my van to see what on Earth I bid on and won that required so many bags !!!! haha

You passed up a face like Veronica's?? Like this?

Wow, you must be very strong. I couldn't have passed up a snake with a face like that. In fact, I didn't.

I'm going to Repticon today - some reptile event at the fairgrounds. I'm at risk for my baby retic addiction. I hope I can abstain.

Re: Minnesota Herp Society Sale

P.S. That cute little face bit my hand a few days ago, thereby renewing my membership into the bleeders' club. I'd let it lapse for 4 years, so it was overdue.

Re: Minnesota Herp Society Sale

Star - you are MEAN posting that photo ! ( they had Pinky's for auction too... I could have had one for TWO BUCKS ! )

I think she was even cuter, if one can imagine.

But I will point out how far I have come and know the requirements and responsibility of such a pet and did not come home with it. I also would not risk infecting my own snakes..... I also am getting a bit too old for taking on another 20 year pet.

WHAT ????????? I AM GETTING SENSIBLE IN MY OLD AGE ??????????

now if a TEGU shows up next month, well.......... haha

OH - I also got my head chewed off by the adoption lady for using the term RED TAIL BOA.... good grief. I never knew that was NOT an acceptable label .

What did she want you to say, for heaven's sake?

What was that about you "never owning" another snake????
But truly, if your shoulder bothers you, the last thing you need is a BIG snake!

So maybe it's best you fought off the temptation!? (why wouldn't they even let you hold it??? they sound rather uptight?)
Well, uptight or not, I only wish I had such a local herp society to mingle with.

I understand, FM. I went to the Repticon show today and almost bought a gorgeous pink hypo boa. I also fell in love with a motley and sunglow motley. They were outstanding. There was some kind of caramel snake, too, that made me crave coffee milk. I got my retic fix, my ball python fix, and even a weasel fix. But mostly, it was all about the baby boas. They were so tiny and adorable, just like mine used to be. I cuddled so many snakes today - it was heaven.

OH, and I also bought the bumper sticker from the CO Herp Society: MY BOA COULD EAT YOUR HONOR STUDENT, which is on my shiny red honda del sol. They must have pilfered it from me, but who cares? I'm glad someone made it.

FM, I swear, if you had seen the tiny baby boas today with their tiny little heads, you would have gone home with a few.

Re: Minnesota Herp Society Sale

Dang it ! I need to get signed up for that ! I keep forgetting .
Can never have to much supplies in advance for future snakes !

@Stargazer . I feel you. I've been having a Retic obsessed lately .
They are just TO cute .

There is a male dwarf for sale at my local exotic pet store, but those guys don't know what they are talking about. So I refuse to buy or ask for any snake advice .
Today when I went to get rats, he went off on every snake I asked about
How any snake over 10 feet isn't worth it
And now Blood pythons. Retics and Burmese shouldn't even be messed with as pets.
So now my moms all scared of snakes again.

Ugh
ANYWAYS. Off topic.
I need to get signed up for MN herps

The meetings are at the U of M in st.paul?
Lol didn't know they had one over there .
Cus I was gonna say, I've like 5 miles away from the U of M
