**Updated pics!**Very sad cases....**caution aweful pic**
The last couple weeks have been the most emotionally trying for me.
Last Tuesday we had a younge female dog brought in that had a buckle collar embedded into her neck. She was terrified. But as I scanned her for a microchip she didn't even flinch to make a move. She was once someone's pet that either gotten loose or was dumped. The smell engulfed the whole clinic. The next morning we run a heartworm test and blood work and it shows she has heartworms. We do xrays and see that her heart and lungs are fine. So we knock her out ato clean her neck and suture her back up. Well, she didn't wake up...... I had named her Patience, because she would need alot of it to come around and make her the good dog I know she could have been....
On this past Wednesday we had an owner come in with a dog that ad a neurological problem since November. She wwas dragging her right front leg. Well, since she didn't follow through with her previous vet, the dog had drug the leg to the point that it was gangreenous. The infection went sustemic and she was in lateral recumbancy. She couldn't even lift her head. She would wag her tail for us and that was it. Aniamal Services was called and the owner was kept by our staff for them to show up. The dog was taken and humanly euthanized and the owner was thrown in jail. When the owner was let back into the kennel the dog wouldn't even wag her tail for the owner. She did for every one of us.
Now a few of you know that I petsit for a Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder. I always keep an eye on Animal Services for the neglect cases and purebreds that I can get into breed rescue when I can. I was this poor girl there that was so emaciated that I was suprised she was still alive... We went down there to evaluate her for rescue. She is so scared. Not a mean bone in her body. She looks to have been beaten on her back in a couple places.... She was found as a stray. Well... she is going to get out of there and go to my friends place. She is under a year old and has great potential. to be a wonderful pet.
Here she is....

Thats awful! It's prevalent with every hobby, birds, aquatics, herps, mammals. That is what is REALLY sad.
That would be a tough week, and a time that would make it hard to say, "ok there is good coming from this".

Oh, I was hoping that was all over with for you..That's awful. I'm so sorry to hear of your losses. I know each animal you work with is loved as if it was your own.
I hope something really inspiring happens at work, and you see a happy ending to help put the bad things into perspective.
I think what you do is admirable, and it makes such a wonderful difference in the lives of the animals.
